Telluride Film Festival

Telluride Film Festival

And the Oscar Goes to...

Labor Day is commensurate with the ending of summer and the ushering in of fall. Across the country, most people are fitting in their last trip to the beach and purchasing school supplies, while something entirely different occurs in Telluride. For the past 46 years, it has been a cinephile's dream to be here when the Telluride Film Festival comes to town - with what has been heralded as one of the best film programs in the world. Passes do tend to sell out so purchase tickets and book lodging early! Well curated - seven out of the last 10 Oscar-winning movies screened at Telluride - there are also remastered classics, coffee talks with industry folk, and tributes to filmmakers and actors.

While most films are shown in makeshift theaters spread across town (one theater is constructed inside an elementary school another in an ice skating rink), there are also nightly outdoor screenings, a Labor Day picnic and a buffet on Main Street known as "the opening feed". Telluride is a small town with a small footprint, so chances are you will encounter a few celebrities over the weekend.
