Oak - The New Fat Alley

Oak - The New Fat Alley in Telluride

Where Everybody Knows Your Name

Oak is a local hangout enjoyed by longtimers and visitors alike. It's perfectly situated at the bottom of the Gondola so skiers can easily ski down for lunch or partake in apres ski. During the summer, the crowds overflow to the patio to soak up the sun. A family-friendly establishment, parents can converse inside while children run around the plaza before being rounded up for dinner. Robbie, the proprietor along with Sean, his right-hand man, take care of everyone as if they were immediate family. As you enter the door, many times Robbie has already spotted you and will be preemptively pouring your favorite beverage.

The fare leans cajun and BBQ, often featuring pulled chicken, hickory-smoked brisket, pork ribs, chicken fried steak, gumbo and po boys. Dishes come with a variety of sides including fried okra, coleslaw, red beans and rice, broccoli or fries. In addition, you absolutely want to try the fries at Oak! They offer traditional steak fries and a slightly healthier sweet potato version. The steak fries have just the right amount of seasoning while sweet potato fries are rippled and find the perfect balance between sweet and savory.

The ambiance is very casual. Oak doubles as a sports bar with several televised games showing throughout the day. Come in your ski gear after a day shredding the mountain or in your boots after a day hiking Ajax or Bear Creek. It's a great social scene from local school teachers, lift operators and lawyers to visitors hailing from destination around the globe.
