Year Round Outdoor Action
No matter the season Telluride is an active soul’s paradise. Yes, the area is known for its world class ski resort but there are a host of other activities to enjoy too. In the winter, try snowmobiling, ice skating, snowshoeing, dog sledding and more! Telluride winters are goregous with loads of sunshine (when its not snowing) and blue bird skies. These days there is just as much to do from Memorial Day onward, when Telluirde becomes the festival capital of Southwest Colorado. Just about every musical genre has a festival dedicated to it and then there are also events for film buffs, photographers, playwrights, oenophiles etc. On Thursday evenings take part in the art walk and revel in the thriving artist community that Telluride inspires. Hiking, biking and SUPing are local favorites in June, July and August. Don’t forget that our small town is also renown for its old-fashioned Independence Day celebration complete with a parade, town park BBQ and of course a spectacular display of fireworks.
The restaurant scene ranges from the fine dining experience you are accustomed to finding in NYC or San Francisco to casual Tex-Mex Cantinas and Thai food outlets. A big part of Telluride culture not to be missed is our take on fast food – the food cart. Adorable kiosks line Main Street in Telluride and are scattered across Heritage Plaza in Mountain Village to satisfy rumbling stomachs-quickly. Choose from Grilled Cheese, Gyros, Diggity Dogs, Crepes, Vietnamese Pho, Giant Pretzels and freshly made doughnuts. New carts tend to appear often – so who knows what may be available next season!
Of course there are plenty of stores that can help you with sporting equipment and outdoor gear. Brands you can count on finding throughout Telluride and Moutain Village include Chacos, Prana, Teva, Solomon, Patagonia and North Face. Feeling the need to visit boutiques Telluride has those too. Check out Two Skirts, Sublime, Scarpe, Swanky Buckle and Marmie Lingerie and CashmereRED for the latest fashions and trends.
